Exif Data and Comments

Hi,
I have just started using singapore in the last couple of days. So far I love its simplicity and lightweight nature. However there is two features I miss from other galery software i have used in the past. Exif Data display (i always prefer this in a seperate small popup window, but underneath the image is also cool) and also comments. Its nice to get feedback from people looking at your pictures. Is there any plans to integrate these two features?

Cheers!
joe

Re: Exif Data and Comments

Comments is on the cards wink , EXIF is a little bit trickier.. but your suggestion of having it outside of singapore's data set may make it a bit easier (to say, be implemented at a template level).

The problem with EXIF is despite what it may appear there is no consistent schema for the data. This makes it pretty complicated to parse. There are some opensource implementations of EXIF parsers, I guess it's just case of intergrating an appropriate one into singapore in a sensible way...

keep watching this space...

Re: Exif Data and Comments

Actually I have done nothing about it - how ever I wonder - what is the use of it exactly?

Re: Exif Data and Comments

EXIF allows you to store the metadata within the photo.. infact  most digicams already store info in there about the type of camera and setting etc.. it would be nice if this was automagically shown, as opposed to having to manually transfer this across to singapore fields..

but its complex.. EXIF comes in many different complicated flavours... there was that other standard approach someone had linked to somewhere in the forums.. which looked more promising...

Re: Exif Data and Comments

yes yes..i know but it doesn't save like actually important things like the GPS Position, Comments or Tags - I wonder who cares about which shutter time someone used.

This is what Plogger uses:

Exif would be a nice feature to have, some photographers like to display their shutter speeds, iso, etc.

Re: Exif Data and Comments

I was under the impression that EXIF can hold much more than what the camera writes to it as it is extensible, so it could include GPS location, title, caption etc..

But yeah.. this is where that other meta-data standard starts making more sense IPTC
