Password Protect Gallery

Hi All,

I know this has been covered before but can't seem to find anything relating to my specific problem.

I have a password protected gallery with about 100 pics in using htaccess and htpasswd etc, the problem is that when you access it you need to type the username & password in each and every time.

Is there a way to make it save the user & pass so that it remembers it after typing it once ?

Thanks

Re: Password Protect Gallery

It will save it for that browser session.
you can choose to as the user save it in your browser.

The server will then allow access to that section on any page.
we also have a simple pass word mod that uses only a pass ...

demo is avail in the lab maybe that could work for you.
htaccess is best but this is a simple alternative for those who don't want to use htaccess.

Re: Password Protect Gallery

That's what I was expecting but when I tried htaccess password it asked for it for each and every page and not just the main gallery page.

The demo you showed ? is that the password protect mod ? if so that doesn't work with the new version of the gallery and modern theme for some reason...my php skills are limited so not sure how to check.

Re: Password Protect Gallery

Correct modern is not supported that template has been pulled from the lab and can no longer be downloaded as it has little to no support from its creator, and can present many css related incompatability issues, the pass mod should work fine with Neat2

Thats odd that it makes you login every time can you send me the link to the page with a temp password to try.

send me an email via this board with that info and il check it out

Re: Password Protect Gallery

Not yet no, I did email you back saying that it seemed worse in IE8 though.

I have since messed about with htaccess etc and think i've done it so i'm waiting for him to get back to me to see if it works, if it does I will post here.

On another note though I have integrated sgal into a php site which works great however I can't get to the admin part, I login as normal then click manage galleries and it throws me back out to login again.

Is there something i'm missing ?

Lastly I want to hide galleries with . at the front but link directly to it for some people, even though the gallery is using external.php is it still possible to link to a .hidden gallery as i've tried and cant figure it out.

Thanks again for all the help it's much appreciated.

Re: Password Protect Gallery

To hide a gal just add _

so you have somthing like
_nonpub

its still avail but can't be seen

As far as tossing you out after a login thats common if your not accepting the session cookie so be sure that your allowing it from your site. that would be my first guess.

Re: Password Protect Gallery

Ok i've changed it to _hidden just to test it , how would I direct link to that hidden gallery ? i've looked through the docs but it mentions it for .hidden or something like that and can't get that to work either.

Also the gallery is located at www.mydomain.com/gallery so with regards to the admin section kicking me out do I need to check anything or change anything as i can't find the session cookie anywhere in singapore.ini

I've checked my browser and if the gallery is using index.php and and not using external.php the login works fine but I need it to work while being integrated into my current site.

Re: Password Protect Gallery

Yes i understand that and it should work with complete integration
thats the only way i ever use SGAL.

your browser has to accept the session.
its not a setting SGAL it would be in your browser.

e-mail me link to test with temp pass.

To give it out to someone just give them the link as you named it somthing like.

?gallery=_GalleryTest

Re: Password Protect Gallery

Yeah got that working now ignore my post, was being being stupid and not being able to spell late at night.

Have managed to get around the password issue now.

If you direct link into a gallery (say family in this case) it asks for the password say 10 pics so 10 times) if you put the linked gallery inside another folder like this : -

Galleries
--Family
---Pics

It works fine and only asks for the password once, this isn't a big issue just a little strange thats all.

Any ideas why this would be the case ?

Re: Password Protect Gallery

well if your calling it via that domain that you showed me thats why ya can't do that must be the one its called from, as the server sees it as not the same call understand so thats my guess on why thats happening ...

Re: Password Protect Gallery

Hmm strange as the site I sent you originally (that was slow) it doesn't work on his but thought about it earlier and that is running from his home pc via xampp so could be that being the reason.

Either way it's working now so not a huge deal, just an extra click for the person visiting which is no biggie.

Thanks again for all the help, much appreciated.
